This is culled from a big one-sided conversation I had with my camera. It ended up feeling kind of like writing in a notebook, but I didn't get very far. Also, I was whiiinnnyyy on camera. I edited out the whine, or, most of it.

Breathing is maybe the smallest thing that is so important. It's like everything, cells, bones, synapses. Breath is huge because of its collected smallness. That is pretty easy.

The people footage (look at that man's eyes!) is from the home shopping network and C-Span. The dog footage is from the footage that came with the software bundle that came with my video camera. I used the software to make this video. I cried the whole way through.

I spent the day shooting video, looking at it crooked, and rethinking and overthinking, then decided to just make this tonight. Because today was the deadline.

This post serves as a reminder, a taste, a forced obligation. wuff.

It has been a while! Since I graduated from the fine university here in Iowa City, I've had trouble procuring a camera - I always used my student ID to check them out from the library on campus. Now, I have the option of being on a waiting list at the public library (and being fined thirty damn dollars if it's late!), taking up with public access, which might be all right, or getting my own. Since I've been working a lot, getting my own camera wouldn't be completely out of the question, though it's damn expensive. If you have any tips on a camera I should get (under eight hundred dollars please?), let me know. Until whenever, good day. I'll be back soonish. xo.

Susan is pretty much hilarious. She doesn't really care about the conversation going on about the TV show called The West Wing. Apparently Rob Lowe got hit. This is my project where I tried to exit my comfort zone, but I didn't... really... exit... my comfort zone... much. It was kind of meant to be a sequel to my modes project, which is at the bottom of the post - but it would take weeks of work and failure to do such a thing. I'm not ready for a capstone on this videoblog because um it is going to live forever.

Okay.

Even when I am stuck and I have no idea what to do and I am tired and the footage I have sucks and I'm stupidly working at home with Windows Movie Maker (duhhhhh), I am resolved to not let my videoblog become something that I stop caring about. Like, I will miss weeks, and I will have crappy things that I post just for the sake of posting, and I don't know, anything is possible... the point is that I keep it at least in the back of my mind. The point is that this is a pep talk to myself, trying to keep from becoming dispassionate about it. Because if there's one thing I love, it's plastering my shit all over the internet. I say that in the way that would once have been considered cold & heartless but is now something of an endearment. Everything shifts, moves around, changes, and this short video is a document of one night of change for this guy right here.

So, okay, Barak Obama is really smart. It's funny how a generic pep talk speech gets me all excited, but it did because of the seeming genuineness to it. It's pretty neat.

All the slow, scary business at the end isn't meant as a comment on the speakers or the party or anything, it's more like trying to kind of capture one sense of being in a crowd. I hope that's clear. I hope the election goes well. I guess by the time most of anybody sees this, it will all be over.

I've been thinking a lot lately about how we all need other people. Like, we really really do. If we don't have other people, we lose track of a lot of aspects of ourselves. So I took some video that I shot on a couple of occasions and mashed it together to create this very messy mess. I wanted something with a lot of laughter, and this has it, and I'm glad I'm putting anything up at all, but I think by next week, I'll have a greater amount of video to choose from.

If this just looks like home movies, oh well. Because the idea is: PEOPLE, WOO.

And apologies for a lot of the video being glitchy-looking. It looked fine the first couple of times I reviewed it. Something must have happened to the tape? I don't know.

hoo. I took forever to put this together because I kept not feeling inspired by the stuff I shot. I started to realize that, hey, maybe I need to involve other people in my creative processes once in a while! Because other people are amazing and wonderful! But in the meantime, here's another one of me kind of, like, shooting a bunch of video and then sitting around in an editing lab for hours trying to make it work. Note: The piano lessons I took were when I was around 8-12 years old, and the big thing happend when I was I think 12 I think. Oh man. Okay. So I like editing labs but I like people too. I need to find a pleasant balance somehow.

So I am naive enough to be inspired by stuff all the time, and people see it on my face, I'm enraptured. People were telling me that they could tell that I was really enjoying some pieces at No Shame last night, like my face was all lit up, like I was on fire.

Maybe I am on fire. Maybe I'm having a renaissance. Because the heat of living is absent so often, but why should it be? It's just there sometimes.

I am in bed. This is literally footage of the very moment I woke up, as I set up the camera the night before. It's kind of creepy, now that I think of it, to imagine a blind eye staring at me all night. And, since I would be curious if I was watching it, the crazy lines are an antennae for a radio in a parking booth I work in. It's by the main library.

The noise is from people putting up ugly, ugly siding on my apartment and neighboring apartments. I seriously thought they were done. They interrupted my sleep. This is my wuss-revenge!

Oh dear, I really have a botchy time of this. It's in Flash format because I made it on my windows video maker, which is a piece of cra-ha-ha-ha-happp, so I will convert and fix it later. I also hope that you are ready for me to just talk at you and it's kind of just a drone that ends with some abrupt beeping. I don't know whether or not it really counts as a thing. So there's something to be said for manifestoes. Remember those? Relevant, intense, aggressive, serious. It's hard to care about things that are serious because so much is kind of ... not particularly serious.

My idea is to balance on that wobbly line. I don't know. I like laughing, and it's kind of easy to laugh, laughing is easy for me. Crying isn't easy, but thrashing around is. I understand thrashing around.

So this will be a video blog about laughing and thrashing around. I will ride my bicycle into the sky.
